Halifax Independent School P-2 Wk 1

Welcome!

You did great on your first day of piano lessons with musIQ club!

In our first class we learned about Mr.Beethoven who teaches us our lessons. After our lessons we go to the practice room where Miss. Melody helps us practice what Mr. Beethoven teaches us.
This week we learned about high bird notes played with our right hand, low whale notes played with our left hand, and middle "C" After our lessons and practices we all got a chance play two games which incorporated what we learned. We then learned a bit about improvising and went into the improvisation room. I hope you all had fun and I will see you next week.

Can't wait!

Great job today!
I loved how you all helped me set up! That was very nice everyone and I appreciated it very much. You all showed me today how responsible you are and I am very proud of everyone.
We started our lesson by going to Miss. Melody's practice room in level 4 to practice our rhythms and note playing. Then we went to our last review lesson with Mr. Beethoven.

Our new teacher for level 6 was Mr. Bach. We now know a little bit about Mr. Bach and I will tell you more about him next week. Next week we will start with the new princess game, finish level 6 in the practice room with Miss. Melody, and then move on. We also have another new game to play!

Thank you for a great class.

Superb practicing this week!
I am sure our last class felt like the longest so far, but I am confident that we are becoming concrete in knowing the basics to learn how to play the piano.
We covered a great deal today. Here are the lessons:
1-5 notes above middle "C" in the treble clef
1-7 notes below middle "C" in the bass clef
1-3 Intro. to the "F" or bass clef

You all seem to have a handle on the treble clef notes which you learned in music class. This is great! Some of you had some great sayings to remember our lines and spaces in the treble clef such as "Ernie Gives Bert Dog Food" For the spaces we can spell the word "F-A-C-E"

After learning and playing games to practice placing notes on the staff in Theory Thinker 1-5 and 1-7 , we started the exercises at the end of lesson 1-3.

Congratulations on all your hard work today.
We had some re-arranging of seats today for a few people. I realize that this may not be what we would prefer, especially if we were with our close friends; however it is better for your learning experience. It is very important that we try and pair ourselves with someone with similar piano experience so that we can all excel to our full potential. Thank you for being so co-operative and kind with your new partners!

Today was a long class for most of us but a very important one. We spent a lot of time drilling the notes on the staffs with the "Key Quest" games. Starting with the treble clef lines: "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge" and then learning the spaces "F-A-C-E" We then went on to the bass clef lines "Good Boys Deserve Fudge Always" and the spaces:"All Cows Eat Grass" These phrases will come in handy at all times when we are learning new songs. We also played "Key quest" spelling words with the notes on the keyboard for a few short minutes.

If you have the program at home here are the lessons we did.
Theory Thinker: 1-3 "The bass clef" with exercises
1-5 "Lines and spaces above middle c" skipping exercises
1-7 "Lines and spaces below middle c" skipping exercises

Josh and Hannah
You also reviewed the notes on both staffs and then went on to :
Theory Thinker 2-2 "accidentals"
Next week we will review the notes in the bass clef and go on to :
Theory Thinker 2-3 "key signatures"
Theory Thinker 3-1 "other simple time signatures"

Once again great work today! Now that we are learning where the notes are, we will be able to start learning familiar songs!

Mount Edward Elementary P-2 Wk 2

Great work today!

We are accomplishing a great deal in our first few lessons. Although it is only our second week, we will already be starting lesson 5 next week.

We now have a grasp on rhythms from lesson 3 and 4. Can you remember some of the new phrases? ex"When, is su-pper time?" You can practice clapping rhythms at home.

New this week:
Mr. Beethoven introduced us to playing circle notes in place of our high birds and low whales.

Music of the week:
In the practice room, we listened to the composer Haydn's "Surprise Symphony" This song was played in your music class in school, so it was familiar to you. What great memories you have! We also heard pieces composed by Mr. Beethoven: "Sonata Pathetique" and "5th symphony"

Great job today!

Welcome back to another week!

We all did very well in this week's lesson. It was a very important lesson because we learned the notes on the staff in the treble clef. For the lines, we can remember where the notes go with the saying "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge" and for the spaces "F-A-C-E" (Theory Thinker 1-5)
You all got lots of practice placing the notes on the staff from one of the games.

We also were introduced to the bass or "F"clef. (Theory Thinker 1-3) So far, you are doing a fantastic job using your left hand!
For some extra review, some of us played another game spelling words with the keys on the keyboard.
Lastly, I wanted to test your rhythm so we played a rhythm game with a drum in the Children's Music Journey" program. Great work! Everyone has great rhythm.

Next week we will be reviewing the notes in the treble staff and learning more about the bass clef staff. See you next week!

Hello again!

What a successful class we had! This week, in lesson 4, we got to read real circle notes in place of the birds and whales. Lesson 5 was was a piece of cake as Mr. Beethoven and Miss. Melody helped us review rhythm and our circle notes. Great job everyone remembering where middle "C" is.
Here's the saying we learned this week. "The notes on the keyboard go like this: C,D,E,F,G,A,B"
We all clapped some of the rhythms that Mr.Beethoven taught us:
"My Par-rot likes to talk"
"Fresh fruit helps us grow"
"Swim, swim, li-ttle fish"

Can you remember some more?
Songs of Mr. Beethoven's that he showed us in our lesson this week were: "Sonata Pathetique" and "Moonlight Sonata" There was also a silly song that Miss Melody let us listen to, called the "Surprise Symphony" by Haydn. Do you remember why it is called the "Surprise Symphony?" I hope you enjoyed today's class and remember, next week we get to meet Mr. Bach!!!
