Portland Estates Elementary 3-6 Wk. 3

Perfect attendance as always with this class! A reminder that there is no school next Friday. I will see you again November 2nd.

Today we worked on a number of exercises which followed our practice on note values.("Things to practice" Topic 6 Page 19 Ex 1-11 from xix 1-2 Bar lines and note values under Theory Thinker)

After this I guided you through lesson 1-5 "Lines and spaces about middle C" Here we learned how to remember the line in the treble or "G" clef: Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge. or Every Good Boy Does Fine. We remember the spaces in the treble clef by spelling F-A-C-E.

Today was a very important class to further our piano playing skills and I felt that we were not all paying attention as we should have been. I know next week we will fly through reviewing the notes in the treble clef and you will be more eager to learn more on the bass or "F" clef.

I realize we are zipping through an incredible amount of material in these first few weeks but you are doing great! This is what we've learned so far:
  • Proper posture and hand position
  • recognizing all the notes on the keyboard
  • naming all the notes on the treble staff
  • Basic note values, (whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth notes)
  • 2 songs and multiple exercises
  • playing with the left hand in the bass clef.
Anthony
Great work reviewing your notes on the staff in both clefs. You're a pro now! You started learning/reviewing rests, accidentals. We will proceed with these classes next week. I will also be listening to some of your level 1 pieces.

Ala, Alana, Hope
This class you had an introduction to the piano
We reviewed proper hand position and posture and then proceeded to practice different note values. Good for you for learning two songs on your first day!
Song #1 Topic 05 page 03 Exercise 01 " Frere Jacques"
Song #2 T. 05 Pg. 05 Ex 01 "When the Saints"
I am very impressed how much you learned and accomplished in this class. Next week you will also be learning about the bass "F" clef. Fantastic work!!

Park West Elementary P-2 Wk 3

We learned a lot on lessons 3 and 4 this week.

Mr. Beethoven and Miss Melody started by reviewing some songs using high notes, low notes and middle "C" After this we learned about rhythm. Some helpful phrases:
"Ti-gers ne-ver make good pets"
"My Pa-rot talks a- lot"
"Swim Swim li-ttle fish"
"Rab-bits like to eat car-rots"
There was a new and exciting game following our lessons, which helped us practice rhythms.

In lesson 4 we reviewed our songs and rhythms followed with Mr. Beethoven showing us something new. Instead of using birds and whales, we read notes!
Next week we will all finish practicing reading notes in Miss. Melody's practice room and move on to lesson 5.

Pieces composed by Beethoven that we listened to this week were: "Symphony no. 5" and "Sonata Pathetique" These two pieces have some angry Beethoven moments.
Miss Melody let us listen to pieces by Joseph Haydn: "March" inspired by a clock and "Surprise Symphony" which really does surprise you!

Hello!
This week we learned about note values: whole note, half note, quarter note, eighth note, sixteenth note. Great work on the exersies that went along with this. After the lesson on note values was a "Things to Practice" with a list of exercises. Most of you have started these.

Next week we are learning the notes on the treble staff and will be introduced to the bass or "F" clef. See you soon!

Mount Edward Elementary 3-6 Wk 3

I am very proud of how comfortable we are becoming on the piano in just 3 lessons.

We finished learning and reviewing note values this week. There are a list of exercises in "xix1-2 Bar lines and note values-xix Things to Practice. Topic 6 Page 19 Ex 1-11" Most of you got through all of these which is fantastic. To end class we played "Key Quest" finding the notes on the keyboard in all octaves as well as the "Spelling the notes on the keyboard" game in which you find letters on the keyboard which spell a word.
Time spent today on exercises and note names was well worth it! You are all doing very well.

We are all now at the same point in our lessons and next week we are learning more about the notes on the staff as well as the bass or "F" clef.

See you soon!

What a wonderful class this is!

Last week was a very small class, but we may have a few more join us next week.
We learned all about Beethoven who would be over 200 year's old if still alive today. In the practice room, Mr. Beethoven taught us about the high bird notes and the low whale notes in lesson one. In lesson 2, he taught us where middle "C" is on the keyboard. In Miss. Melody's practice room, we were able to go over what Beethoven taught us. At the end of each lesson, we go to the games room which incorporates what we learned.
The two songs composed by Mr. Beethoven that you heard were "Minuet in G" and "Fur Elise"

You did such a great job at your first piano lesson and I can't wait for us to learn about rhythm next week!

The book fair is over and therefore next week your teachers will bring you to our regular room, the library.

Welcome back to your second lesson!

We did some re-arranging of seats this week, so some of you were at a different computer than last time. Because there are not enough computers for everyone to have their own, we will be alternating partners on a weekly basis.

This week we learned about note values in Theory Thinker (1-2 "Bar Lines and Note Values") We practice the exercises on whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, and sixteenth notes.

Those who got past these main exercises, went on to a list of more exercises for practice in Theory Thinker 1-2: Things to practice. To end the lesson, we reviewed the notes on the keyboard with "Key Quest"

Next week we will be starting with the note value exercises and moving on to the bass or "F" clef in the left hand as well as learn more about the note names on the staff.

We remembered so much after coming back from the Thanksgiving holiday.

This week we learned that there are 7 letters in the musical alphabet.
We completed 2 levels in our lesson time. In level 2 Mr. Beethoven taught us where middle "C" is on the keyboard. Middle "C" was then incorporated into our high and low games which we learned to play last class.
In level 3 we learned about rhythm. Here are some helpful phrases to practice at home. You can either play the rhythms on middle "C" on the piano, or clap them.
"Ti-gers ne-ver make good pets"
"My Pa-rot talks a- lot"
"Swim Swim li-ttle fish"
"Rab-bits like to eat car-rots"

We heard two pieces composed by Beethoven this week: Fur Elise and his 5th symphony. Fur Elise is very melodic and easy to listen to, while we described his 5th symphony to be scary music.

You all worked very hard this class. Thank you.
See you next week!

Hello,

This week's main focus was on note values. We started by each getting a turn playing the songs we learned last week and then went on to half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes and sixteenth notes. The last few exercises were a bit tricky but you all did well trying to keep up. I think we all have a good grasp on note values now which is a very important concept when learning to play piano.
We also reviewed knowing where the notes are on the keyboard with "key quest"- spelling words.
The lesson ended with the memory game where you already started to learn some new material such as the sixteenth rest. See you next week!

Welcome back to your second week of MusIQ club. Everyone made it safely to the music room and ate their lunch very quitely while I set up.

To start off we discussed more about Beethoven and his life and then reviewed the highs and lows on the keyboard.

Mr. Beethoven then taught us a new lesson about middle "C" which we rehearsed in the practice room with Miss. Melody.

To end the lesson, we got to play the same two games from last week only this time we were to play the highs, lows and middle "C". You all caught on very fast and are doing a great job.
