OUR LAST CLASS IS DECEMBER 13th

Good job today.

We finished up any lessons from last week and learned about rests this week. (Theory Thinker 2-1) Rests are beats of silence. This way we know when not to play. Here are the names : whole rest, half rest, quarter rest, eighth rest-just like our note values!
PIANO PLAYER PIECES
  • Row Row Row Your Boat
  • Pop Goes the Weasel
  • On Top of Old Smokey (only a couple of us got to this one)
Once you played these three, I got those who finished to play with the metronome. This is tricky but it is good to learn how to play in time. Next week we will be doing this more. For those of you who did not get to On Top of Old Smokey, or need to practice on Pop Goes the Weasel , I have put the links below for you to print.

TO PRACTICE AT HOME
If you do not have a computer, you can go to these game links. Please practice your notes on the staff so that you do not need to rely on the fingering. Here is the link so that you can practice this:
1. For this first one, go to settings to practice the treble clef and bass clef.

2. This one is to help with ear training. You may need to download Flash Player for this one. The game I would like you to play is called What's that note?

OUR LAST CLASS IS NEXT WEEK! DECEMBER 6th

I thought we learned some great things in today's class. We were on Lesson 11 where we learned that our fingers are numbered from 1-5 starting at our thumb. We also learned about the perfect hand position which is like holding a ball. You can practice how to hold your hands at the keyboard by placing your hands on your knee caps before raising your hands to the keyboard. We did some finger exercises on our legs to help strengthen our little finger muscles.

We also go lots of practice with the wood block today. I played a few rhythms and you took turns as well

You also learned some new musical terms: Treble clef, Bass clef, and dynamics p and f. p stands for piano (soft) and f stands for forte (loud)

Melissa

You finished level 5 today! Next week you will have Mr. Bach as your teacher. You also learned about our fingers being numbered so you'll be all set once you reach level 10!

To Practice at Home

Here is a game which you can play on your computer at home. You may need to download Flash Player. Click on the link below and then go to the game called High/Low. We haven't learned our notes on the staff to play the other games yet but someday you will learn these!
