For only our third lesson, we are in great shape!

For your first experience at doing playbacks, you did a great job! We reviewed the 5 note C+ scale in the R.H and learned the 8 note C+ scale. Fingering for this is "1-2-3 (thumb tuck) 1-2-3-4-5." Our thumb tucks under on the note F.

In Lesson 1-5 "Lines and Spaces Above Middle C" we learned how to remember the lines in the treble or "G" clef: Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge. We remember the spaces in the treble clef by spelling "F-A-C-E."

The songs that we did this week were:
  • Old Grey Goose
  • Mary Had a Little Lamb
  • Twinkle Twinkle
To Practice at home
Not all of us got through all three songs but you will get a chance next week to practice them.
I sent home finger number songs "Mary had a Little Lamb" and/or "Twinkle Twinkle" for you to try and play at home. Don't forget to review your C+ scale. Hope you have fun!

Good work today.

Today was not an easy new lesson and you are doing very well. In Lesson 9 Mr. Bach talked about playing "Higher and Higher and Lower and Lower"

It is important to make sure that we see the hand symbol and check when we play with our right, and when we play with our left hand. It is also very important that we play our songs and exercises all by ourselves. This way we will learn how to play with both hands at the same time. From now on, it will be routine, that we switch and take turns with our partners playing our exercises and songs. After our lesson and practice, you found a new game in the games room called "Cliffhanger"

You were all fantastic at playing our live version of "bongo girl" Thank your for volunteering to play some rhythms on the drum.

See you next week

P-2
Today we reviewed holding notes in the practice room with our new teacher Mr. Bach in level 7 and then continued to learn something new! In lesson 8 we learned how to play with both hands at the same time. Great job! You can keep practicing our rhythms that we learned in class by clapping with a parent or someone in your family. ex "1-2-3+4" Keep up the good work.

3-6
You are doing great William! Today you learned/reviewed the notes on the staff in the the treble and bass clef. At the end of each lesson you got to play the Key Quest games to drill note placement on the staff. The song you learned today was "Old Grey Goose" in Piano Player: Level 1

See you all next week!

Mount Edward Elementary 3-6 Wk 6

Hello everyone,
Good to see you again.

Today in class our main focus was on learning musical rests and time signatures.
Here is a list of what we did:
  • Play backs
  • Learning about intervals: harmonic and melodic
  • C+ scale
  • 2-1 Theory Thinker "Musical Rests" with corresponding exercises
  • 3-1 Theory Thinker "Time Signatures"

Your play backs and C+ scale were great today! To familiarize ourselves more with intervals, we will be doing more practice using the Go Fish cards. Remember harmonic intervals are when the notes are played at the same time and are written on top of each other. If you were confused about time signatures I will be going over this as well as reviewing our rests next class.
I am very proud of what you accomplished.
Practice at home
Take the time this week to go to your piano and practice perfect hand position. When you play your scales, or any notes on the keyboard, try to keep your fingers close to the keys at all times. Don't forget to strengthen your left hand too!

Have a great week!

Today we learned something new!

In lesson 8 with Mr. Bach we learned to play our left hand notes and our right hand notes at the same time! Way to go! When finished our lesson and practice, we did a number of activities:
  • The library (computer) to play over songs from lesson 7 and 8
  • All 4 games
  • Improv. room
  • Early lessons (4&5) with Mr. Beethoven to practice our play backs to word rhymes: "Fish can-not go for walks"
Kennedy and Taylor, you had a new teacher today! I didn't get the chance to introduce you to Mr. Bach, so next week, I'll let the rest of the class tell you some interesting facts about him.

Kennedy
You went over lesson 5 and then completed lesson 6. Great work! You got to play two new games.

Taylor
You finished level 6 and started level 7 in the lesson room. You also got to play two new games.

You are doing so well! Today we learned about rests

You went through two lessons today. The first being review of the bass or "F" clef:Theory Thinker 1-3 and secondly Theory Thinker 2-1 "Musical Rests" This is a fairly simple concept if we are comfortable with our note values. At the end of class I held up some flash cards to review our note values. We will be doing some more review on this in our next lesson.

Our songs that did were:

1. Old Grey Goose
2. Mary Had a Little Lamb for the L and R hand.
3. Twinkle Twinkle
4. Pop Goes the Weasel.

Those who a did hear play some of these pieces are sounding wonderful!! Keep it up! Our goal is to have a steady tempo and play these familiar tunes with ease.

John and Anthony, I have quite a bit planned for you in our next lesson. If you have the program at home review 2-1 "Musical Rests and 2-2 on "Accidentals"
